Children's Claritin Review

Allergies have been kicking our booties around here {hence the reason I have been MIA since Friday}! I have been coughing and sneezing for over a week now. Everyone but Princess JF has been fighting some sort of allergy related issue for the past two weeks. And my 5 year old Princess JL has been home for the past 2 days with her eye swollen shut and a sore throat from allergies. So, imagine my excitement when asked to write a review on Children's Claritin with BzzAgent!

We decided to start with the Grape Chewables since my Princess isn't very fond of syrups. She had no hesitation is taking it, chewing it up, and continuing on her way! I was surprised! She typically only likes bubble gum flavored medicines. We began the Claritin on Tuesday after her eyes started to show a little pink. Wednesday morning she woke up with her eye completely swollen shut and oozing. After another dose of the Chewables she looked 50% better by the evening. She had also developed a sore throat, but I am happy to say that after her dose today she is doing much better! Oh, and yes, we did actually get her to take the syrup today, although it was quite a feat. I can not say it was the syrup itself rather than just a strong distaste for syrups in general {she is allergic to Penicillin and the antibiotics she typically has to take are not very tasty}.

You can find more information on Claritin's Facebook page or website... as well as print off valuable coupons!

**I received a product sample, coupon, collateral or other special premium from BzzAgent.**

What to do... what to do...

Well, the school year is coming to an end soon and we are praying that Princess JF will be back to her "old self" by then! But, with the end of this school year comes some big changes for us with the upcoming year. After 9 years of homeschooling our older two, they have decided they want to attend public school next year. Now, I always told them I wanted to get them at least until high school and then I would give them the option to make their own choice about homeschool. They have told me for two years they were going to public school, but this time I believe they are serious. This makes me sad, but I raised them to be independent and am proud of their decision. But, again, I am still sad.

I have had the kids home with me for the past 9 years and am already feeling the loneliness without them here. I know, I know, I will still have my baby here with me... but I am still sad. I feel like I must find things to keep me busy {yeah, because I don't have enough already}. I am trying to be positive though and have thought about all the things I am ready to start doing in the upcoming months.... besides play with Princess JR, of course.

So, my list of upcoming goals that I am hoping to bring you guys along on:
  1. Blogging - Yeah, I kinda do that now... but I would like to get back into my daily posts and posting more about the deals and such that I originally started this blog for. I go back and forth and whether or not I should start a new blog specifically for deals and such, but then I like that this blog is established and I could do both. Maybe? I don't know... still praying about this decision.
  2. Coupons - I haven't been able to coupon shop in over a year. Finding the time to cut coupons, match sales, and simply get to the store have escaped me. In fact, I am not even sure where my coupon binder is since I did not even unpack it when we moved last August. But, I figure if I am going to be home then I could get back into it and Princess JR can tag along. Again, blogging would help me keep up with the sales and coupons and I could pass them on to my readers.
  3. Once A Month Cooking - Ok, I have tried this once before and it was amazing! I LOVE going to the freezer and grabbing a meal that needs nothing more than a quick toss in the oven or stirring on the stove. SuperDad enjoys helping me prepare the foods and it truly benefits everyone. So, any recipes would be appreciated here!
  4. Cleaning - Ok, I know that this is something that {obviously} gets done anyways... but I really WANT to get this house organized and clean... and kept that way! I am hoping to get this started soon. I see sites like The FlyLady and desperately want to get started but get overwhelmed when I open any door. I would like to get to the point where I am no longer overwhelmed. Oh how I wish I was a minimalist like my brother. One day... just one day...
  5. Proverbs 31 - I think that ultimately I am simply striving to be a Proverbs 31 woman. This my ultimate desire and goal in the coming days, months, and years. =)
A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her women servants.
She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. ~Proverbs 31:10-31

Just keep swimming...

Dory: Hey there, Mr. Grumpy Gills. When life gets you down do you wanna know what you've gotta do?
Marlin: No I don't wanna know.
Dory: [singing] Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim.
Dory: [continuing] Ha, ha, ha, ha, ho. I love to swim. When you want to swim you want to swim.
Marlin: Now I'm stuck with that song... Now it's in my head.
Dory: Sorry.
Some days I believe this is our mantra... "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming." Remember how I tried explaining our journey to Princess JL using "Finding Nemo" as an analogy? Well, I guess we are at the part of the movie where Nemo and all those other fish are stuck in the net and Dory and Marlin are telling them all to just keep swimming. The great thing about that part of the movie is that as they all work together and swim down they all get loose in the end! We are all swimming together as a family and know {without doubt} that we, too, will soon be busting out of this net at the bottom of the ocean.

We have seen HUGE improvements over the past 3 weeks with Princess JF. Her Play Therapist {whom we see every week} notes at each visit how much JF is reverting back to the sweet Princess she first met back in January. The office staff at her school tells me that JF does not come to the office much anymore and that she is starting to look more like herself. Her Sunday School teachers have noticed her smiling. I even received a random email from a mother of another student in her class {a FB friend and fellow MOPS mom} who had lunch with her son this week and saw enough change in JF to let me know. She told me how Princess JF was smiling, laughing, and telling jokes at the lunch table! This just made my day!

We are truly enjoying hearing such encouraging news from everyone! After this week's appointment with the Play Therapist we {the therapist and I} talked about beginning to step JF down from every week to every other week starting in May! We also were able to stop our regular visits with the GI doctor last week and {prayerfully} only have one more appointment with the urologist. Also, since we are weaning off both Lexapro and Risperdal, we should only have one appointment left with the psychiatrist. That means we are down to half our doctors! Yay! At least one appointment here and there is better than the three a week we have had the past few weeks. Poor Princess JF has not had a regular full school week in months! Plus, the cost of gas and the fact that I drive a Suburban {which I absolutely LOVE by the way} means that these appointments are wearing on our bank account. So, Princess JF and I are both pretty excited about only one appointment for the next few weeks {thus far at least}! WooHoo!!

Finally, I almost forgot that I still haven't updated with the DMSA results! All was great! Her kidneys were both pulling their own weight, there was no visible damage, and everything was exactly as it could be. Her doctor said it was perfect "textbook" results. WooHoo {again}! And, our most encouraging news this week, came in the form of watching Princes JF and JL play together! This honestly has not happened in several months because JF would not allow it! It meant everything to my 5 year old princess and I could not have been happier for her! We are definitely making strides here!
Crush: Okay, now everybody grab an exit buddy.
[Marlin and Dory grab each other quickly]
Crush: Do you have your exit buddy?
I am now holding on tight to my exiting buddy {Princess JF} as we ride this {prayerfully} last current. It has been one wild ride and it has opened my eyes to some things I never knew existed. I am grateful for that part of our journey, although I so wish that my Princess {and my entire family} would not have had to suffer in order to see their existence. But, again, I firmly believe in God's plan for me and know that this journey will allow us to minister to others. But, for now, we will "just keep swimming, just keep swimming..."
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance
 ~James 1:2-3

Pier 1 - Spring Collection

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Pier 1. All opinions are 100% mine.

When we moved into our home last August one of the first things we noticed was the great backyard patio! It is huge and would make a nice entertaining space... if we had the right outdoor pieces. Pier 1 has such great items and their Spring Collection would perfectly fit our needs!

My favorite pieces come from the Sunset Pier Outdoor Collection. The comfy, Deluxe Settee would be perfect for SuperDad and I as we sit and watch the little princesses play. Two Deluxe Chairs and an Outdoor Coffee Table would finish off the entertaining area of the patio. Perhaps a great Outdoor Swingasan Chair would be the perfect embellishment to complete the outdoor sitting area! The entire collection is simply beautiful!

And if you already have your patio furniture, why not add some new cushions or a fun, new umbrella to simply update your outdoor space? Adding something as simple as a new rug will bring new life and vibrant color to an already established entertaining area. Plus, I love that the rugs, cushions, and even the furniture and more could be used both indoor and out! Wow! That provides both convenience and value!

Furthermore, make sure to check out their fabulous Special Values! There were so many great pieces and I could simply go insane... the Cross Collage and Tiles Collage Wall Decor were amazing and budget-friendly! My favorite outdoor piece was the San Rafael Armchair marked down to $219.99.... and there was so much Easter stuff!

Lastly, the iconic Pier 1 Papasan has evolved! Check out all the different outdoor Papasans available this Spring! The Double Papasans and Swingasan are my absolute favorites! What are yours? Check out Pier 1 online and see for yourself!

Be sure to check out Pier 1 Tweetups to see if they are coming to an area near you soon:

Review: Home-Ec 101

For those of you up North still experiencing snow, well down South here, “It’s Spring time in Texas, Y’all!” This past Monday we had tornadoes and 80 mph straight line winds all over North Texas. Poor SuperDad, who works for an insurance company {let’s just say I’m “in good hands”}, spent all of Monday fielding claim calls, and all day yesterday answering the question, “When is someone going to come out?” And, well, with the nice Spring weather it has also, once again, motivated me to get some Spring cleaning started. Now, I say started because our current schedule doesn’t allow me to actually finish anything! :/

Anyhow, imagine how thrilled I was to find out I had been chosen to review Heather Solos’ book Home-Ec 101: Skills for Everyday Living! I was actually able to find some time {during those priceless late night/early morning hours} to read the book from cover to cover… and so glad I did. It is truly chop full of great ideas, tips, and resources. Even after 5 kids and almost 17 years of marriage, I was able to learn things I had never heard before. The book was written in such a fun, easy to understand format and even included definitions as it went along. So, if I did not already know the difference between conduction and convection I could look on page 167 and learn all about it! This chef, turned blogger, truly knows her stuff and is sharing it all with us in her book!

My favorite part of the book, other than the amazing amount of knowledge gained, was her use of both sarcasm and raw humor! As you read along learning how to organize and clean your home, you find bits of humor sprinkled throughout the book and, hence, a smile on your face. For instance, when talking about the bed, Mrs. Solos adds, “A lazy person may want to save time by layering a week’s worth of pillowcases and removing one a day. Note: This does not work for underwear.” And it’s a book about cleaning! I never thought cleaning was such a fun topic to read about. Plus, the retro look of the book just makes it even better!

Letters of readers with interesting questions, recipes for both meals and cleaning solutions, measurement conversions and dangerous chemical combinations round out the long list of resources the book provides. Here are just a few things you can find in the book:
  • Quick and easy cleaning tips broken down day by day to help you get on to bigger and better things
  • Functional organizational tips that allow you to find those items you need efficiently
  • Frugal laundry tips for removing stains, keeping your whites bright, and removing musky odors
  • DIY home repair tips that put you in control of your home and your pocketbook
  • Fast and healthy weekly meal plans with recipes to stop those last-minute take out trips
  • Rules on how to keep a well-stocked pantry so you can make a meal even when you haven’t been to the store or you need a meal when disaster strikes
  • Definitions for kitchen appliances, cooking terms, techniques and the basic needs for every kitchen
